Join us for a day or two of board gaming fun! Board Games By The Bay (BGBTB) is a series of epic board gaming events that have been running in New Zealand since 2011. Most events have been in Auckland or Hamilton, but we've also had events in Tauranga and Palmerston North in the past. We were excited to bring BGBTB to the South Island for the first time in 2019, with an event in Christchurch - and in 2021 we headed to Dunedin for the first time ever.
These events bring together enthusiasts and players new to the scene in a relaxed, fun environment. Participants enjoy catching up with old friends and making new ones, trying out different games or relaxing with familiar ones, and entering the free competitions.
Numbers are growing with each event, and we are trying an exciting new venue for Hamilton in 2023. It's always great to see so many old friends and newcomers, experienced gamers and families showing up, and we're looking forward to seeing YOU this time around.
There will be a library stocked with all kinds of games for you to try, and many people bring their own games and invite others to join them. You are most welcome to bring your own games along. We have a team of great volunteers (our friendly RedShirts) who are experts at teaching a wide variety of games to new players.
If you would like to loan any of your games to the library for others to enjoy, please contact us using the links at the bottom of the page.
In addition, we usually have a number of New Zealand's very own game designers attending these events, who are looking to trial new game prototypes, promote new projects, and taking the opportunity to connect with their end users (that's you!). Throughout the weekend we run free giveaways and spot prize draws where everyone has a chance to win. Sometimes we also have quizzes or other fun board game related challenges, and co-ordinate tournaments or math trade events.
Gaming is hungry business, so we have food available to purchase throughout the weekend. Free tea/coffee facilities are available, along with a selection of fresh fruit (also free).
You can turn up and pay on the day at the door ($ 20 per day), but it is cheaper to pre-register online, especially if you want to attend both days. Booking online also guarantees you a spot, as we may have to suspend door sales if the venue gets too full.
